How to Fix Facebook Incorrect Thumbnail Issue in WordPress

by Content Creation Resources | Jul 27, 2020 | Wordpress | 0 comments

Have you had an incorrect post thumbnail when you share your articles on Facebook? It’s a common error that beginners can run into because knowing how to make the right thumbnail show up is not always clear. In this video, we will show you how to fix the Facebook incorrect thumbnail issue in WordPress.

This video is sponsored by MonsterInsights, a powerful plugin to help you use your analytics information to the fullest, take a look at MonsterInsights here:

One way to show the thumbnail you’re wanting to would be to install and activate the All in One SEO plugin found below:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

With the plugin installed and activated you would want to go under All in One SEO, Feature Manager, and activate the ‘Social Meta’ box. After that, you’ll now have a new box under your post editor for your social settings. Click on the Upload Image next to the Custom Image section to add the image you want to appear.

Don’t forget to clear any caching on your site to ensure the image can be crawled properly.

For a second method if you do not want to use All in One SEO then you would want to activate Yoast SEO found below:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-seo/

With it activated you can scroll down when editing a post to the Yoast SEO meta box and click on the Social tab. You will see an Upload Image button where you can upload the image you would like to see on Facebook.

Facebook also has a debug tool to help clear Facebook’s cache, you would want to copy the URL of your WordPress post and paste it into the tool. Should the image be incorrect you can request Facebook scrape the site again for your updated image. Facebook’s debugger can be found on the page below:
