Let me tell you – I spent A LOT of time second-guessing my decision to quit my job, doubting my skillset and massively overcomplicating the process…
At the time, I had NO idea how this whole thing worked and wanted a step-by-step plan to follow.
So if you’re in that place right now, here are some steps to get you off on the right foot ⏬
👉🏻 Learn and continue to hone your skills (you’re in the right place 🙋♀️).
👉🏻 Start building your portfolio and experience (absolutely critical).
👉🏻 Let the world know what you’re up to – friends, family, peers, and acquaintances on social media.
👉🏻 Plant seeds, have conversations and network your booty off – attend live events, meetups and online events.
👉🏻 Invite potential clients to connect on a call to learn more about what they do and how you can help.
👉🏻 Find out what they need (really need) and offer to support them. Be genuinely curious and make them feel seen and understood FIRST.
👉🏻 Send a proposal that outlines the project, timeline and price.
👉🏻 Once agreed upon, send along a Statement of Work or contract for both of you to sign.
👉🏻 Have a kickoff call with the client to ask relevant questions and get everything you need to start.
👉🏻 Provide the agreed-upon assets (after implementing feedback).
👉🏻 Send your invoice. 🤑
👉🏻 Send a thank you email and a proposal for future/ongoing work.
👉🏻 If you don’t continue working together, follow up with them in 3-6 months to see how they’re doing and offer to support.
