Throwback to 2011 ππ» I had just quit my job at Mindvalley and was starting my copywriting business from scratch… β
β
I spent my first month as a freelancer traveling around Asia (and burning through my measly savings)…β
β
Ohhhhhh those early days ππ€ͺβ
β
Let me tell you β I spent A LOT of time second-guessing my decision to quit my job, doubting my skillset and massively overcomplicating the process…β
β
At the time, I had NO idea how this whole thing worked and wanted a step-by-step plan to follow.β
β
So if you’re in that place right now, β here are some steps to get you off on the right foot β¬β
β
ππ» Learn and continue to hone your skills (you’re in the right place πββοΈ)β .β
β
ππ» Start building your portfolio and experience (absolutely critical).β
β
ππ» Let the world know what you’re up to β friends, family, peers, and acquaintances on social media.β
β
ππ» Plant seeds, have conversations and network your booty off β attend live events, meetups and online events.β
β
ππ» Invite potential clients to connect on a call to learn more about what they do and how you can help.β
β
ππ» Find out what they need (really need) and offer to support them. β Be genuinely curious and make them feel seen and understood FIRST.β
β β
ππ» Send a proposal that outlines the project, timeline and price.β
β
ππ» Once agreed upon, send along a Statement of Work or contract for both of you to sign. β
β
ππ» Have a kickoff call with the client to ask relevant questions and get everything you need to start.β
β
ππ» Provide the agreed-upon assets (after implementing feedback).β
β
ππ» Send your invoice. β π€β
β
ππ» Send a thank you email and a proposal for future/ongoing work. β
β
ππ» If you don’t continue working together, follow up with them in 3-6 months to see how they’re doing and offer to support. β
